If you have been experiencing pain in your elbow after a few rounds of golf, you are most likely suffering from a condition called golfer’s elbow. Some symptoms include pain, inflammation, and tenderness inside of the arm. It develops after a lot of repeated use of the same muscles and tendons, so if you have recently started playing more golf, that is why you are now feeling sore. But it is not just golf that can lead to this issue, it can also come from tennis, rock climbing, or weight training. Often times it is also accompanied by golfer’s wrist pain that results from twisting the hand repetitively. Here’s how chiropractic can help.
Exercises for Golfer’s Elbow and Wrist Pain
There are a few exercises for golfer’s elbow that will help to stretch out the muscles and tendons inside of your arm to lessen and reduce pain. These are the same stretches that bodybuilders and yoga gurus tout before their own workouts. Remember to use them slowly; you should not be reaching the point of pain, although you may feel discomfort as the muscles loosen up. You should also consider using a cold or hot pack to help destress those muscles too.
For stretching out your golfer’s elbow, extend your arm in front of you, with fingers and palm facing up. Use your opposite hand to bend your extended hand back towards you for a few seconds before releasing and doing it again. This will stretch out the tightest muscles in your arm, which are most likely the muscles causing you the pain in the first place.
For relieving your golfer’s wrist pain, sit down facing a table and place your arm on a stable, flat surface. Roll your fingers into a fist on the table and bend your hand back towards the top of your arm. With your other hand, press down on your first. This resistance stretching will help to loosen the tendons inside of your wrist and leave you feeling much better.
